Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar
Where ~ Rogue Wet Bar - Gastown - Vancouver
What ~ Pay what you want food, and a killer drink list.
With "Rogue" plastered on every wall and pillar in sight at Waterfront Station, Rogue Wet Bar is hard to miss. Rogue has definitely hit the nail on the head for decor and music, which I am generally quite picky about.
Their menu definitely stands out from other restaurants in their category. I can't tell you how many "edamame" appys I have seen, but none of them are done like Rogue does them. (covered in jalapeno sea salt and served with a sesame soy dip!) It seems as though every restaurant has the same basic appys- dry ribs, wings, edamame and spinach and artichoke dip. Rogue clearly saw this as something that needed to be changed (thank goodness). With appys like Sushi Bombs, Mini Corn Dogs (you know you love them!), Baba Ghanoush, Pot Stickers, Calamari with Zucchini Sticks and Korean Short Ribs, Rogue definitely picks up where all it's competitors leave off.
(I should mention that we somehow wound up having to try all the appys and didn't order any entrees... I will definitely make sure I do a review of the entrees as soon as we go again!)
Any negatives? ~ I can't expect 5 star service because that really isn't the point of the restaurant. The service was by no means bad, everyone was extremely friendly and polite. My only complaint was that it took 10 minutes for our server to come over, another 10 for our drinks to arrive, and another 20 for our appys. Then we sat there with our dirty plates for another 10 after we were done. Not a huge deal, like I said everyone was extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly!
Price ~ $$
Verdict ~ Go! It's different and worth it. Very reasonably priced, great decor, great music, friendly staff, different and well thought out food. Just go! Trust me!
